INCREASING  ROAD ACCIDENTS

Road accidents are on the rise. Today more people die in road accidents all over the world than by any other cause. In kerala, we know many people get killed in accidents everyday. There is not a single day when road accidents are not reported in the papers. Many are killed, but many more are seriously wounded and maimed for life. The roads are full of all sorts of vehicles-two wheelrs, three wheelers, four wheelers and their numbers are increasing day by day.Pedestrians are the worst sufferers, victims of every kind of vehicles, even ordinary bicycles.
There are many proverbial expressions giving warning to drivers, but many drivers, especially the youngsters riding motor bikes are more interested in the thrill and disregard the death, which they feel confident, will not happen to them."Better be late than the late", says another warning, but everybody wants to be on the wings of speed.
There are many causes for accidents. The bad condition of the road is one reason.Vehicle multiply in number but the roads remain the same or even worse  day by day.Roads should be widened as far as possible and kept in good repair. In towns wherever possible in one way traffic should be enforced or road dividers should be constructed or marked .Pedestrian crossing should be clearly marked.speed bumps should be marked and warning signs should  be put up ahead of them
More accidents are caused by the drivers themselves:driving licences are issued with out proper testing.officials are bribed, some drivers may be under the effect of liquor or drugs and naturally they drive recklessly, many accidents are caused at night by sleepy drivers.People prefer to travel long distances at night."To save time" but the travel often ends in death.........
